Collections Management / Project Management
Houston’s high heat and moisture weather conditions are tough on outdoor sculpture, even invincible bronzes. Conservator Ben Woitena of CRS removed the degraded accumulations of the wax coating, cleaned leached materials from the surface, plugged exposed holes, and applied a coating that will provide longer-term protection for the artist’s original bronze patina.
In her role as Cultural Programs Manager for Houston First Corporation, Christine managed the project from initial inspection and contracting through onsite logistics, scheduling, and final documentation of the sculpture’s conservation. The entire project also included conserving a series of bas-relief sculptures, also by Fagan that adorn the brick walls of the of the Baker Commons.
