Art Acquisition
Hilton Americas-Houston completely renovated the property in a $54 million hotel transformation project in September of 2020. As part of the guest room improvements, the hotel team and designers wanted to be sure that Houston was well represented. Artworks from ten local artists in diverse mediums from photography, painting, and collage, were selected to enhance guestrooms with vibrancy and local flavor. “It was important for us to include the various shapes, forms and artistry of this colorful city and what better way than through art,” said General Manager Jacques D’Rovencourt. Hilton Americas-Houston is located within Avenida Houston and shares the campus with Discovery Green, a 12-acre urban park, and is directly connected to George R. Brown Convention Center. The AAA Four Diamond rated hotel boasts 1,207 elegantly appointed guestrooms with 91,500 square feet of flexible meeting and event space. Contemporary artworks by regionally based artists are displayed throughout the hotel's guest rooms and public spaces and are part of one of the most renowned hotel art collections in the state, recognized by Texas Highways magazine in 2018.
In her role as Cultural Programs Manager for Houston First Corporation, Christine managed the Hilton Americas-Houston art collection for five years. She not only sited works in storage for relocation as spaces changed over time in the hotel and designed new displays for relocated works, but also supervised the repair and conservation of damaged and aging works. During the renovation of the entire property in 2018-2020, she assisted the interior designers and art consultants in identifying local artists and their works for the guest rooms, parlors and public spaces. Through her contributions, she was able to place new works from ten Houston-based artists into the hotel’s fine collection of regional contemporary art.
